At the start of 2022, Go Ratings ranked Kim Myounghoon as #7 in Korea and #30 in the world. By the end of June, he was ranked #5 in Korea and #19 in the world. In terms of Koreans, he's behind only Shin Jinseo, Park Junghwan, Byun Sangil and Lee Donghoon.

Kim is the highest rated player in the world not yet promoted to professional nine dan.

He was runner up in the 2nd Shinye, to Park Hamin. He will be on the Korean team in the 19th Asian Games, in 2023.
